I think I know where I am going with the varnish now, traditional simple and often sounds like my level, but what about touch ups for the outside of the hull which is painted white with something? (boat is 3428) I don't think there is any need to do the whole hull as the paint seems in good shape, but there are a few dings that would benefit from a quick lick of something.
Many thanks

Try a thorough clean first, in case its just dirt!
I have this problem too. Definately don't want to paint the whole hull, but touching in with a similar colour still leaves a noticable mark.

I took my boat to Synthesize and Jamie did a great job matching the colour after repairing a few dinks in the hull. Put in by previous owners I hasten to add!

Find out what was used before as one part and two part paint don't usually bond and there's nothing worse than a peeling boat! Try to get the same but use only marine paint - International or Blakes probably. Clean well, get really dry and then sand well before painting and between coats. And keep each coat thin. Don't use anything from a DIY shed (including their so called trade items), get proper tools from a proper decorators' merchant - a good finish is worth the extra cost and saves ages not having to pick brush hairs from your work! (My helm and OH is a professional painter & carpenter.)

I was hoping someone here could tell me what it was painted with. The boat is an NSM4 "First and Last" (3428) build by Rowsell & Morrison. I wonder if the same rule applies to paint as varnish, one pot is OK over two pot, but not the other way round?
Many thanks

In general you are right!

I was told a couple of years ago by Laurie Smart that 2 pot is fine on one pot if the single paint system has been on for some years. I had the inside of a solo painted by Laurie, 2 pot over old (8-10 year) single pack system and there was no reaction!
