Topic : RYA 2010 DINGHY SHOW - MROA STAND VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED!

It's that time of the year again: the 2010 RYA Dinghy Show is only a month away and we are looking for volunteers to staff the MROA stand.

As usual, Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, London N22 7AY – nearest tube – Wood Green. Saturday 6th March 10am to 6pm & Sunday 7th March 10am to 5pm

More info:
http://www.rya.org.uk/programmes/dinghyshow/Pages/RYAVolvoDinghyShow2010.aspx
http://www.alexandrapalace.com

Volunteers should commit to a minimum of two consecutive hours on either day as follows:

10am to 12 noon
12 midday to 2pm
2pm to 4pm
4pm to 6pm

We already have a few willing volunteers (thanks guys and gals), but we need two volunteers for each time slot.

A free entrance pass will be provided. You should be reliable (i.e. turn up on time) and be pleasant enough to chat to stand visitors who are interested in joining the Merlin Class. You’ll need to collect contact details and keep the stand neat and tidy. Assorted committee members will be in attendance at different times.

It is intended to provide all volunteers with a MORA Dinghy Show T-shirt so please indicate size required for all volunteers

‘Small’ = Aprox 36inch chest - ‘Medium’ = Aprox 38 inch – 40 inch chest
‘Large’ = Aprox 42 inch chest ‘X Large’ = Aprox 46 inch chest ‘XX Large’ = 48 inch chest

Please confirm your details, shirt size & time slot on this thread or to my email address asap.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi

Celia and I will be up to collect the new boat on the Sunday so we are happy to do a couple of hours. I suggest last slot on Sunday so no one else has to be doing it (whenever that is)?

David Charlton

BTW with the new one arriving we are in a position to be thinking about selling Dark n Stormy (3619) soon. Of course if we don't go any faster there may be a brand new one for sail :-)

The colour, as I understand it ;-)

Thanks Dave: can you please email me with Celia's and your T-shirt sizes?

By: Nick 2997
Does that mean that Dave1 has built the boat and decided on the colour before Dave2 could tell him what was required?
Maybe it will be that nice pink colour that C wanted :-)

When would we get the T-Shirts we are to wear?

Hi,

Do we need to bring a Passport size photo (like last year)?

I'm expecting to be around from lunchtime, so I can pop over to the stand for cover - if needed.

Cheers,

Colin

It seems that this year they have decided to issue wristbands and forgo the photograph idea (thankfully). I have the wristbands which I intend to hand out as and when people turn up. I only have 10 wristbands, so they will have to be recycled during the weekend.

As for the T-shirts I haven't confirmed: Matt Biggs has the full list, I am assuming thay will be there on the day.

Noted. Like Colin I will probably be a bit early if I have over-corrected for the vagaries of Sunday train times.

A huge thank you to all that helped with the Dinghy Show, particularly Jon and Nick for heading it up, Andy Hay for the loan and transportation of BAU, team Winder for helping rig boats and of course all those who did a stint on the stand promoting our class to the general public.

Can I go on record that if it wasn't for my good lady letting me spend the last four weekends at work varnishing and painting and varnishing and painting (lots of rubbing off as well) then BAU would not have been there at all. Hope the finish was good enough as an advert for the class.

Now to actually go sailing for a change ....

Hi Andy,

From the visitors' comments all the hard work was appreciated.

One possible suggestion for improvemetn would be labels for what each bit of string did! ;-)

That way I could look far more knowledgable than I did.

Thanks Mags. I did see you there doing them! I was working the stand at the time but did not get to say hi as I was having pictures taken myself!

By: Jez3645
I didn't have much chance to chat really, since I was supposed to be working on the Y&Y stand! But I did sneak back later and took a video of the raking rig and one string system, which some people (who can't get to a new boat) might be interested in.

Another improvement would be a bit of blurb about the individual boat to hang from the boom like the Ovington boats did. When things are busier and the volunteers are talking to others it gives some information to the rest of the viewers.

Finish couldn't have been that bad ... shortlisted for the Concours d'elegance, well I never. Still going to rub it all back and start again when it is a bit warmer ... after sailing her for a while.

Ah but in two years time you will be varnishing yours and will be sailing mine! :-)

I get bored in the winter, so it gives me something to do .... besides she whom must be obeyed doesn't sail when it gets cold, except apparently when the boat has no varnish which of course coincides with a lovely F2-3 and blue sky!!!
