Busy updating the results. Once I have the overall Hampton ones (Tim is in Canada) will send off to Mags.
It looks like around 25 boats have qualified so far. A reminder that all competitors (certainly if they are in the top 20), must be members of the MROA by the 1st Nov, else they will be dropped from the final results!!!! There are about 40 cases so far, but some of those are people borrowing a boat for an event which is OK is the owner is a member. I'll be double checking with the membership secretary before Parkstone.
Finally a question I have a qualification under the rules. Do you have to complete 5 events, or at least 1 from each category. For example say someone has 120pts, including a 100 for no sea event. Should they be placed before or behind someone with 125pts who has done 5 events across the categories? It is not that clear to me.
Thanks, Ross

Ross, my understanding was that you qualified if you competed in 5 events which must include one of each category. If this wasn't the case, then we would not have treked to Cookham or Hampton (both 5 hour trips) to get an elusive restricted event!
Therefore, someone who has done the requisite number of events, with the categories correct, will place higher than someone that has not got the right ticks in the boxes. Where did the 100 points for no sea event come from?

If you have not got a result for each of the categories plus two other best results from any of the categories then you don't qualify.

OK thanks. When sorting by score only it does take account of this. I'll make sure this is correct for final version.
Andy, FYI everyone starts the year with 500 points. 100 for each required open.
I have a suggestion that this is changed to 5000 points (1000 per open). This would enable us to spot those with 125 points (say 5 x 25pts) vs those who currently have 120 points (including a 100), since this would become 1020pts. What are peoples thoughts? I could put this to the committee for next year (bet its been in place for 50+ years so might be rocking the boat here......)

OK, Ross, I understand. The 100 points might be a little low, speaking as someone counting 30 plus points at Opens .... (!). 1000 per open would be a bit easier to work with and easy to amend on the spreadsheet!

The 100 and 1000 thing arose becuase of the complexities of telling a spreadsheet how to calculate the positions!

You've not seen my spreadsheet though Mags. More macros and formulas than you could shake a stick at ;-)))

Tried replacing 100 with 1000 and it works. Moved a few places around
Posted: 15/09/2009 12:13:20 By: Ross |
It is slightly immaterial as those counting a "100" for a non attendance would not qualify in the first place. The "1000" would at least give an easy to spot break in the final table of those who qualify and those that do not.

Like to 1000 as I to am couting results in the 40's so I look as if I have not qualified but actually (when we get Haamptons Results) we have done the required opens.

As above. Any problems Rossy get in touch - I've encountered most of the dilemmas at some point!

The 1000s seem to be doing the trick in my program. At present I only have the top 5 places for Hampton, the rest are pending. Lymington is done. Here is the ST status as such.

Dead keen to get those Hampton results up as this will shoot us up the rankings (and get rid of the 1000 we are counting at present!).

Tim is in Canada at present. Not sure if anyone else from the club can provide the results? Note they should include helm and crew names please.

Results so far now available. http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/reports/?lym

30 qualifiers already, with another 14 only needing one more result!

Any idea why the Hampton results have changed since the event?
Posted: 23/09/2009 19:06:46 By: Jez3645 |
Yeah, I thought I was 18th at Hampton...

You were, and we were 17th.

I was only given the 6 separate race results so had to work them out myself. I believe they are correct. Mags might be putting the full Hampton results up on the web.

Here is the results that Ross sent me. http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/reports/open_meetings/2009/hampton2009_results.htm

It still seems that there is a change in those results. I am pretty sure that Andy Dalby has moved up the results since they were worked out on the day.
Can anyone from Hampton shed any light?
Posted: 24/09/2009 18:09:49 By: Jez3645 |
I think there was an error in the results on the day Jeremy, as I remember the last placed was boat was 27th, despite there being 28 entries.
