Is there an alternative to wire jib Halyard? Can rope be used? If the latter which type?

Use the sort of rope that is least like elastic!

We've used 3mm vectran for the past couple of seasons without any problems, but I do keep a weather eye out for stretch as it would alter mast rake, and wear at the loop, where the hook for the cascade goes.

use line and tie the rope back on the bell

They all tend to "creep" (Stretch a bit) and they are even if claimed not very liable to UV damage why not just use wire?
