MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : manx grand prix?

Phil DH, Dan the Man and me have hatched a plan - to have a MR based trip to the Isle of man to watch the old Gold Stars, Manx Nortons G80s etc racing - but perusing the web it seems that the event is mainly for old post 1980's Jap whizzers - So how about going to the Goodwood Revival 2010 - no dates yet but this years is 18 - 20th Sept. Have to wear 50's style clothes so Dan and Phil wont have to go any extra effort. My computer has suddenly burst into audio life with Glenn Miller and old racing car sounds!! an automatic web page from goodwood.
So what do you think? we can probably get a good deal if there is a crowd of us - all MR motorcyclists welcome (or even car drivers) Just imagine sitting around the camp fire - steaks sizzling on the barbie and a glass of port and lemon, or a pint of mild. And relating motoring stories of old

Yep, sounds great. Just looking at this year as it happens.

The discount available to the Land Rover employees is 25% so I'd imagine a relativly small group would struggle to match it.
It's £48 per person per day on the Saturday and Sunday, or £103 per person for Fri Sat Sun.

Missed last year, but the previous year was breathtaking. If you wear a period shirt and tie, you're allowed into the pits among some of the most exotic machines I've ever seen close up. I had a leather jacket and tee shirt last time so wasn't allowed in!

Certainly a must see event.

Land Rover employed 10,000 people in the UK in 2007, slightly less now.
The RYA has 100,000 personal members. I would guess one phone call from the right person would secure 25% discount in about 10 seconds.

a trip to the british grand prix cost me about £370 and it was nothing like as good as the Goodwood Revival - so £144 sounds like good value - and I think that you can always get to see the cars and bikes close up - if properley dressed - get out that old cravat!

Alex and I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. Was £33 on Friday, or £48 for Sat or Sun. An excellent day out.

Not yet been to the revival day which is in Sep as you say. Would be interested in going for sure.

I would love to join the party but there may not be time for me to save up for all the oil my Tiger Cub would need to make the return journey from Lyme Regis.

To be clear, are we talking about this year's Revival meeting or next? Sadly my MGB is the 1967 model and does not qualify for the car park and doubtless there are enough anoraks to point out the reversing lights and later version of the doorhandles should I try to blag it!

The Goodwood Revival meeting is 17th 18th 19th September - but you will have to miss the Wembley Open meeting - so shall I make more enquiries? - DH Dan Ian and others - I need to book tent space.
