MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Jen & Pip's Great North Run 2009

It's that time of year again - we are asking all you lovely Merlin sailors to dig into those wee pockets and donate to the Prostate Cancer Charity - a brilliant charity for whom we will be running the Great North Run for on 20th September.

In a change from last year, we will be accessorising our running gear with the most random combination of fancy dress we can muster... think tutus, giant comedy glasses, and moustaches and afro wigs... and we promise we'll display photos if you sponsor us!

Donating is easy peasy at www.justgiving.com/jenandpiptaylor

Thank you in anticipation.

P.S. We are hoping to do the London Marathon for this charity in April too - are we mad?!

Good luck to you both, having just lost my cousin to cervical cancer at 40 years old this morning - All cancer charities deserve support. Would you consider putting a bit of the massive fund you are going to get into cervical cancer as well??

Can I also add to all the females get your smears done NOW. If Alison had a smear test earlier, she may still be alive today...

Sorry, it's not quite as simple as that. Please ask a sensible and qualified doctor about the pros and cons.

Over the age of 80 about a third of men have prostate cancer, only 10% of them know about it and maybe 1% of them die of it.

Who needs doctors when there is google?

"Prostate cancer is mainly a disease of older men and the risk of getting it gets higher as you get older. Prostate cancer is rare in men under 50 and very rare in the under 40s. About one third of men over the age of 50 will have some cancer cells within their prostate, and by the age of 80, about half of all men will have a form of prostate cancer, but this will not affect their daily life and most will die from other causes

Prostate cancer differs from most other cancers in the body, because small areas of cancer within the prostate are very common and may stay dormant (and so be harmless) for many years. However, in some men, the cancer can grow more quickly, and in some cases may spread to other parts of the body, particularly the bones."

Greetings from sunny Slovenia, where training is going well in the 32 degree heat. As we are not in the UK to badger you personally (think yourself lucky...) it would be brilliant if anyone could sponsor us for the above event which is getting closer and closer...

Thank you thank you thank you - it really does mean a lot.

See you on the start line soon,

Jen and Pip
