Topic : Epoxy pigment, success?

I have been painting the inside of the hull on 2434. Pigmenting epoxy seemed to be a good way to go, killing two birds with one stone. I've been using 15% pigment in the mix which gives reasonable coverage, but not as good as I would like. With two coats on and a fairly sever rubbing back between coats I'm starting to think that it will need 4 coats, and worrying (unnecessarily?) about weight (and cost, and time).

Will I end up with a better, lighter result if I go for two coats of paint at this stage? Pigemented epoxy is a nightmare to work with, ideally requiring atleast two people to work effectively, which is a big ask for the missus! Switching to paint, I think, would atleast give me enough working time to achieve a reasonable quality finish around the fiddly bits.

Any advice very greatly appreciated.

John,

I painted the inside of MR 908 with 2 pack weathersafe System 65 paint -light grey RAL 7035. Can obtain it from Serene Paints, West Sussex. It's a 2 comp paint but really good, tough durable stuff. Easy to work with and to apply. It's the same paint system that Laurie Smart applies to the inside of his boats hence why I use it. Not the cheapest of paint but very effective.

Alternatively I think Blakes do a 2 pack primer - colour stone. This too can be used and I think it was used to paint the inside of Rob Holdroyds new boat.

Good luck

Weatherline 65 in RAL7035 bought from serene paints. Thanks for the advice. It seems much much easier to work with.

Yes it is an excellent paint system and really, realy tough.

You will also find that by using a drop of thinners it also flows much better. Use thinners as well to clean brushes.

As for thinner type you can use Halfords cellulose thinners at £6 a pop.
