MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Richard Estaugh

It is with great regret that we have to announce the untimely death of Richard Estaugh on Saturday evening. Richard was one of the best known and most successful dinghy sailors this country has seen and he will be sorely missed. As well as being a keen sailor himself he also set up and ran Speed Sails for over 25 years helping thousands of others within the sport.

We have all lost a great friend and our thoughts are especially with his family at this time. Out of respect for Richard’s wishes his family have requested that people don’t send flowers but hope they will consider making a donation to sail4cancer or the RNLI instead.

For anyone wishing to attend his funeral, details will be posted on the Speed Sails website as soon as they are available.

Not only a great and versatile sailor but generous with it in business.
Richard contributed greatly to the re-establishment of the Midland Circuit for the Merlins consistently and without question over many years.
He will be missed.

Shocked and saddened by this news. Richard was a former class champion and a very high class sailor. While not a regular Merlin Rocket sailor in recent years he was non the less a formidable competitor.

Great sympathy to all concerned.

This is a shock. Very premature. I didn't know Richard well, but did chat with him over the years, usually at the Dinghy Show. A nice guy and a credit to sailing. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

Just come back from being away and read this very sad news, remember Richard from my GP14 days, we both suffered broken bones in the same football match when sailing was cancelled. More recently Richard has supported myself and my children supplying Mirror sails for several World Championships. I did not know Richard's family but our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
