Topic : 2009 PYs released on the RYA site

Well the Merlin has dropped again to 1014 (the same as CYC used at this years Snowflake). What is surprising is no change to the Phantom, which seems to have a cracking PY at present. I no these numbers are only based on feedback upto end of '08, so the big Phantom wins at this years winter events won't be involved yet.

Thanks Ross. Whitstable are still on 1000 for club races - to give everyone else a chance. That is everything except modern Cherubs, who win by miles IF they stay upright. I seem to recall Shoreham Merlins on less less than 1000 at home. What are you now?

Apparently the Phantom PY is currently in the Bandit column on the new RYA PY processing site...!

Handicap for the Merlin still very generous. Be interesting to see the latest review in a couple of months time.

The B14 and MPS classes have advised the RYA of a new joint PY but they want to do it via process. Biggest bandit out there at the moment is Pete Barton's Cherub. Pete and I have had many chats about it but the class has to be taken into account. That Cherub in T foil mode could sail off 795 - 810 subject to waves and depending on the venue's decision may sail off anything up to 930. We cannot keep up with him on flat water upwind!!!
According to my discussions with teh RYA, we'll see some big changes in the nubers over the next few months assuming returns are sent in. Suspect the B14 will go down to about 865 - 870 with the Musto and Merlin 995.

Hi Mark
At Brightlingsea we sail on 1007, in light winds we would hope to beat the Fireballs over the water but as soon as it puffs up we do not get a look in. We almost need two handicaps!!

Hi Mark

Am I right in understanding you then that the RYA intend to update the PYs more than once a year from now on? I know the returns can be done electronically now.

One request I would like to make to the RYA is to simply add a column listing changed or new PYs each year. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack to spot all the changes each year. We have to plug them all into a results program we use at Shoreham. Lots of the smaller classes are even on the RYA list so have to request detials from the classes.

Cheers, Ross

Hi Ross

It is my understanding that they will now be reviewed periodically during the year. This is to take into account changes in development etc, but will only work if regular updates are sent in, especially from the big pursuit events.

Do not have the contact details at work but they should be on the relivant section of the RYA website
