Topic : toe straps

Hi we are having a problem with our toe straps , when hiking out hard they are comming away from the fixing . We have re screwed them and it is still a problem .

Do you mean the screws are pulling out of the hull (wooden?) or the straps are pulling off the screws?
At Rutland I had this problem and watched Mike Calvert diapear over the side, he was not amused.
The soultion was to use the same length screw but of a thicker dimeter securing the strap with a metal plate and we have had no problems since.

If the screws are pulling out of the boat the best bet is to drill the holes out, and fill them with epoxy mixed with microfibres. Put the screws into the holes while the resin is curing and they will tap a thread in the filler. Provided all is bone dry prior to the repair they will not come out again.

Bolt them thru the hull with big plates over the webbing, and a rubber or similar gasket beteen the plates and the webbing;job done; end of problem.
