MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Parkstone Open

We are looking forward to seeing old friends at our Open next week (20/21 Sept).

Some of the keener among you will notice that the link to the notice of race points you to last years event. A correct NoR will be up shortly. This year we have plenty of water, 2 races of Olympic triangles on Sat, warning at 12.30. We have two races round the cans on Sunday with a lead boat and proper course cards! 3 races to count.

If you need accommodation, what are you doing? - it's going fast - contact me and I will email round the locals (Scroggie Snr and our house fully booked)

Steve,

You also have about 50 Cadets turning up for their open on the same week-end - that might be why the accommodation is getting tricky! Very brave of Parkstone to hold two major events at the same time!

Eh?

A few weeks backs Parkstone hosted the Wayfarer Champs, (43 Boats ) and Poole Week (158 boats, from 13 classes) simultaneously. Two start lines, one finish line, multiple races per day for some classes, just the one race for others. Foiling Moths, Merlins, Multihulls, shrimpers, x boats, redwings, RS, lasers - quite a combination of course requirements.

Oh i nearly forgot the OK Nationals that they hosted on the the first weekend, just the 33 boats for that. I think there was an Albacore open too. So thats nearly 250 boats.

Im sure they can handle a few cadets and merlins!

I assume the cadets will be accommodated by cadet owning club members mainly. The accommodation I was referring to is Merlin members homes. We aim to be able to put up most - the regulars have already booked in. With 2600 club members it's not normally a problem.

. - Thanks for the comment. It is approx 5000m from club to far shore. We can fit in 30+ boats somewhere! In fact Hutchins to Ellis Jones is 4500m and we sometimes get that as a three sail planing reach. Keep your fingers crossed for next weekend. Sometimes we have to beat back!

The forcast is looking better, so we're crossing our fingers for decent wind down here in Poole for the weekend. Here's a little bit more detail on our website:

With the local fleet making an effort to sail (@9 boats, with at least 4 capable of a surprise) we're hoping for a great turnout for this weekends ST. If you want to come but need a crew, accommodation, or other stuff, then give us a shout - details on the link.
