Personally i wouldn't pay £1500 for an NSM1. The carbon rig is a selling point but you can get a well specified and sorted NSM4 for that money these days albeit with a period rig.

It does look to be in very good order and is therefore worth a haggle. There would need to be movement considerably closer to the starting price for me though! The seller would do better to split snd sell his mast separately assuming it's reasonably standard one.

It really does depend on what you are looking for. The previous owners, a couple of young lads, brought the boat to the champs in pwhelli last year and did some good things to her. It has been done up very nicely with a deck stepped carbon rig etc. It seems to be well kitted. Given what else there is about, I would have thought it is not a bad price since the mast would cost about that on its own new and I have just spent over £700 on a new Soverign combi for my boat.

Allot of kit for the money and a good starters boat I would say. Chris is right though, you can get an NSM 4 for that money but then you will have to deck step it and buy a carbon rig. I know what I would rather if I was just starting in Merlins.

3236 would be a great club or starter boat, solidly built I rejuvanated her some 6 years or so back and the subsaquent owners have lavished more time & money on her which is good to see. Someone will pick up a really good boat. For £1500 you cant go wrong and I reckon you'll need to be spending £3/4500 to find a similar equiped older Tales. The NSM4's all look pretty well used. I guess it depends on how much time you want to spend rebuilding & equiping one?
Buy her & enjoy, Regards Barry.
