Whilst reading the thread on Merlin Rocket 2095 - wot free noticed these champs were mentioned and knew my father competed. Had a little chat to him about it and he asked me to put some of his memories on the forum. Here we go from Mr Philip Wood "Quote" We drove to pwllheli in my new gold Ford Cortina 1600 E with wife Lesley  and children in tow Guy - 4 and Alison 2yrs old towing an Adur 7.5 Upon arrival at "Butlins" the merlin crowd decided to eat at the Executive restaurant. The staff were used to two or three customers so after waiting over an hour with hardly anyone being served we all pushed off to the local pub. The camp was run by "Butlins Police." They were very officious and if you parked your car in the wrong place were issued with a sticker which was extremely hard to remove. A rocketeer/parking offender managed to obtain a number of these stickers and the following morning they found the whole glazed area of their van completely covered. These "police" also had a strict no entry policy to anybody without a pass so we smuggled two friends in under a blanket in the back of the car whom then enjoyed Butlins hospitality staying in our self contained flat under Tilly Simon P.S. Don`t tell Butlins!! At the end of the week Butlins laid on a buffet for the Merlins partly to apologise for the fiasco at the executive restaurant. We all thought this would be no good ao ate beforehand however the buffet turned out to be a sumptuous feast. As for the racing I have never seen so many broken and fallen masts and do remember seeing a plastic boat where the mast had jumped out of the track and punched a hole in the bottom of the boat.
