Desperate. Things have still not moved forward on finding a quick boat for Salcombe. Could anyone help.

O.K I apologise for my previous note. Would anyone know anyone with a boat that is not going to Salcombe that I could charter for the week. Please

I would have phrased it - that would be willing to charter. Reads a little better... baa

I simply would not bother lending him a boat and send him details of his nearest Finishing School instead !!

Hey hang on!!
Jason is the late Chris Andrews son.
He is thoroughly good chap and a very good yotter - sailed at Salcombe week all through his childhood. Last year did very well - and didn't trash anything.
He is now living abroad but loves our class and Salcombe - and wants to take part again.
So - you may not have a boat for him but treat him with respect - he is a child of our class!

Never met the lad, but his father was one of the good guys his mum was lovely cannot believe he is anything but the beneficiary of a good gene pool!

I remember Chris Andrews when he used to sail 3473 'French Mollusc' at Bewl Valley. Was a wonderful man, always cheerful and happy to help, a huge loss when he left this world.

Please treat Jason's request with respect. Although I have never met Jason he is asking a very simple question, does anyone have a boat he can borrow, simple yes or no answer!

If it helps I can very much vouch for Jason, he has been very fortunate to borrow a boat for the last few years for salcombe, and is keen to join us having flogged his B14, but is finding it very difficult to get a competitive 2nd hand boat to buy. If anyone is able please could you lend Jason a boat. (but not too competitive mind as he might just beat me!!)

Have you tried contacting the guys with boats on the for sale list? Hugh Maddison is selling his and I am sure a good result at salcombe would help!! It may be getting on a bit now but it is still a Winder Tales.

.... i hope you have made it a condition that in return Andrew must perform a rendition of 'Coccinella' from the Club House bar per his late great father !

Jason crewed for me years ago when the dreaded Karl punched the wall instead of the stupid bit of crumpet he brought to Salcombe and broke his hand. I had to use I think Robbie Sampson, Jennie King I think, and finally a bloke called Kevin Driver in the last race - got me over the line and blew my chance of a decent O/A result!

Never mind, some idiot has sold me another one Jason (or am I the idiot?)- it will be up for grabs for a huge fee!! And I won't even ask to crew you.

Stuart

This thread seems to have become unpleasant with talk of punching "stupid bits of crumpet".

Actually I found that post offensive as well considering the number of female Merlin sailors.

apologies to those that I may have offended - a few years ago "a bit of crumpet" was a term of light hearted endearment - perhaps political correctness has moved on a bit - Alf Garnet is thought to be racist by many these days - but it was his extreme racist views that made us laugh - at him. Some people have never "got it"

I have great respect for all who sail in Merlins - it has been part of my life for a long time - I have great respect for all the girls (and women!) who sail in Merlins - all of those I have met in the past and in recent years are intelligent and articulate - and good fun.

Why would I buy another Merlin at my advanced age - only to enjoy the company of the finest group of real people I have ever met - and to enjoy, for a while, sailing these wonderful boats.

Anyone offended by my light hearted comments please talk to me - I do not remain anonymous on here - or anywhere else. I will be at Salcombe but please do not accost me after 10pm at the Club.

I love you all really

"scotty" do I know you?

AKA Peter Scott - both before and after 10pm!! Handsome chap in a round sort of way who sports a moustache!! Will you need a crew for this addition to the fleet? I might need to loose the odd pound or two though!

ah yes - tried to forget but failed - will you be at Salcombe? I will be down with my new crew (currenly 5 stone and not the one in the old joke about the Kennomeat) Sues Daughter - 12 years old and a natural sailor - needs nurturing into the Merlin Fleet

So you will be sailing 25 stone all up then!

Glad to see some of the Big names coming down this year as ever, be good to catch up. Maybe we can have a mass debate on some of the subjects and grammatical errors that seem to be offending so many nameless Merlin Rocket sailors. I will be available for a cuddle and a chat along with Stuart around 11.
