MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Sailing over easter....or not

The Merlins at Brightlingsea are still waiting for the first sail, the club opened again after the winter last Sunday and to date all sailing has been cancelled. One more chance tomorrow but the forecast looks bad again. Talk of another two boats joining our fleet..... If only they could find good second hand Merlins.
Brightlingsea Merlins are looking at travelling this year with possibly Hayling our first event, looking at getting some practice in before our Silver Tiller in June. Jacko comes round often and talk of others from Maylandsea, would love to see them.
Has anyone sailed this weekend?

Too busy making snowmen and in the wind my thoughts turned to one of our local heroes, Lawrence "Titus" Oates.

There was a little action at Shoreham. Cancelled on Saturday, two entertaining races around the river and harbour yesterday, and out to sea today. Today was fantastic fun - proper wavy full-on reaches!

Hi Craig
Whitstable went today. Three Merlins and 2 B14s amongst the fleet. We ended up in the tide on one gybe avoiding a Topper. Very short seas and lots of water on deck but other than a line sqaull had 3.5 hours of blasting. Pete even wore a drysuit this time.

Tamesis Club held a rather cut-down Easter Regatta - racing abandoned on Saturday with gusts reaching up to 40mph on the river. Five Merlins, three Lasers and five British Moths on Sunday, followed by two Solos and a Laser yesterday in the snow for our Bank Holiday handicap pursuit. Report, c/o our webmaster John Dunkley is on the website.
