Topic : Drysuits for ladies

The indoctrination seems to be working as Trish has made noises about cold weather sailing (April in Scotland) and "the only way I would sail in the cold is with a dry suit". But which one - any suggestions from the fairer sex as to type and fit. Do you go for a size bigger to allow for a wooly suit or have they already taken that into account? Help appreciated.

Best two on the market are made by Crewsaver and Typhoon. Great ladies cut & fit, back zip and fully breathable.

Come down and try them on.

Hi Garry,

Let me know how you get on - I'll need a new drysuit if I'm going to have 'The Boss' crewing for me at Baltic Wharf in the Smokers. The alternative, of sailing the Unit there, is just too painful to consider!
(using the sliding seat in the confines of the docks just isn't fun).

Is this for Gannet or your 'other' boat
BTW - you'll not need dry suits for the Netely event

My mountaineering son assures me the secret of keeping warm (wet or dry.) is pure silk next to the skin, obtainable from any good climbing shop.

My girlie up front has a gul breathable ladies suit and swears by it. Buy breatable with good thermals such as ice breakers from snow and rock,( via merino NZ sheep) they really are as good as the marketing and do not smell even after extensive wear!!!

I find Gul have the best ladies fit - both my drysuit and offshore kit is Gul and my offshore jacket is so comfortable I frequently wear it to work or town despite the hi-vis fluorescent hood! Men's fit tend to be straight up and down so more roomy than ladies shaped.

The real answer is to go and try some on with the appropriate underlayers - one piece teddy bears are good but a pain when rushing to the loo between races! Front zips make the process simpler too as you don't need help. And as the weather warms slightly the teddy bear is replaced by thermals alone or with a fleece top so try a few combinations.
