Hi Folks We are looking to buy a s/h MR mainly for club handicap racing. Budget around 2k, smallish lake. Our all-up weight is around 22st (mostly in the crew as my wife will be helming!) Any suggestions as to the best design to suit? Many Thanks

On the 2nd hand list you could try NSM4 which is below your budget or one of the earlier canterbury Tales, both are good with 22 stone, generally go for Rowsell/Winder Nsm4 or Turner/Chipstow etc for canterbury tales

Jim, If I had 2k to spend right now I would be munching on Kev Berry's arm for his NSM4 White Whale 3389. Not only is this a good design by a good builder it has a modern carbon rig and is one of the most famous merlins of its era!!!

White Whale is still up for sale, however leave my arm out of it!

I Know a laser sailor who has recently purchased a White Whale he says best thing he ever did and wonders why he did not see the light years ago. It's his first Merlin and in the right wind for his weight they are v quick.

Kev wanted his arm back before I could do too much munching, but the boat was very tasty & so was the soup (thanks Tracy)! White Whale is now settling into her new home in Norfolk. Thanks again Guys..........
