Anyone have a good idea for a £10ish present for an 8yr old girl who has recently learnt to sail? She's got all her kit and a copy of 'Swallows and Amazons' already.... |
Mags, it's a long time ago but: Has she got all the Arthur Ransomes? "We Didn't mean to go to Sea", "Secret Water", "The Big Six", "Coot Club" and "Swallodale" were I thought (And still do.) especially good. Some of the others are a bit airy fairy. You might be lucky and find one of the Aubrey deSelincourt Children's books or "Green Sailors" by Gilbert HAckforth Jones second hand or bang up to date, "Hitler's Canary" by Sandy Toksvig very loosly a sailing book but a very good read for all ages. If she's grown up for her age "The Riddle of the Sands" Erskin Childers - Still in print and a very good film too (available as DVD or VHS.) especially if you like Michael York and Jenny Agutter. |
the rya do a couple of excellent learning to sail and a bit further booiks in the junior section available from the rya or most decent chandlers, just bought one for my 8 year old who loves it |
There are T shirts on ebay which have the logo upside down on it "If you cann read this I have capsized!!" Fun but not sure of kids' sizes. Go to his shop and there is a fair selection. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/I-have-Capsized-T-Shirt-Sailing-Yachting-Boating_W0QQitemZ170166708087QQihZ007QQcategoryZ313QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem |
How about a nice photo of her dad in his national merlin rocket? |
Its my second-cousin-once-removed-in-law (or soemthing like that) not my daughter. £10 budget on my own sprog? Wifey would go mad!!!! |
Yep I limit all expenditure on the kids to under a fiver too. Well even though they earn far more than me they seem to have a similar budget these days!! |
Bah Humbug |
Racing Rules DVD |
How about a build slot for a new Merlin. By the time they reach 18, It would make a wonderful gift |
If things keep on going the way they are you'll be able to trade a merlin build slot for a substantial share in Northern Rock |
As things stand you could probably have the dubious honour of owning the whole thing. |
My 8-year old oppie sailor is desperate for a plastic 'hobby box' to put her bits and pieces in as a spares/tool box. |
