MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : National Champs report

The champs report has now been published, and I have to apologise for it being so very late. Alex got it written quite quickly after the racing ended, but we chose to hold it back, as we were promised it would be published in the Yachts and Yachting magazine.

Sadly this was not possible at the last minute, and we held on for the next issue, to no avail. This is why the Y&Y and MR websites did not have the report; it would be silly to spoil a good spot in such a magazine. Of course things have slipped again, due to a distinct lack of my free time.

I guess next year we need to rethink the plan, and have 2 reports written; a quick one to let everyone know what happened (published immediately online with full results) and a longer/fancier version which we will try to get into a printed magazine like Y&Y or Dinghy Sailing Magazine.

Hi Magnus
I would suggest you do a quick summery each day and post it to the various websites. This will help on 2 fronts, primarily the Sponsors and future Sponsors as this year they got vertually no exposure and the sailing world in general as many people follow the reports. The B14s have had great feedback across the press and sites as we have adopted this formula and so kept the public and Sponsors happy.
With preplaning as you know, it would be very simple bt the work load should be shared out.
See you soon

Well done "Alex" for writing the report!!

Barnsie, we attempted this but failed miserably - I think the free beer got in the way!

Looks like Barnsie has volunteered himself for a job at the next champs.

Volunteers for daily reports have always been non-existent in the past. We already use a lot of coercion to get the normal reports, it hardly seems fair!

If my entry and accomodation were funded though, well, I'd be there.... ;)

Daily reports for a free entry would be well worth it ........ Perhaps the sponsors would foot the bill to get their names in print every day !

I take the hint that Alex did not write the report - my apologies. I thought he left his name off to avoid trouble about some of his comments/nicknames!

So who should get the credit?

Writing style is defo my brothers. Was part written by Deepy, Dalby and Dangerous Dave (why all the D's I don't know...) at the event and completed by Alex to my knowledge. Has been on the DSM site for weeks. Can we at least request Y&Y put on their web now considering they mucked up having it printed!!!

I think there is milage in the Editor/writer of the daily reports having their entry included in the total budget for the event as long as it was co-ordinared correctly. However, further to John's offer I would not want to be considered as I have enough co-ordinating the B14 and Winter Pursuit Series Reports. If not a front of fleet sailor, they will need the co-operation of certain designated members of the fleet (this is where a rota maybe required). In turn we would have a far more professional reporting system (not knocking this years one) which is becoming more important if wishing to secure and keep event Sponsors on board.
The exposure given to the Sponsors would more than justify the cost. Just make sure the club is geared up for the said person to present thier reports daily as this can become a nightmare if not preplanned.
In the B14 class we have adopted a more professional approach and this has helped turn the class round and raise the exposure to a point which the class is now very comfortable with, publishing in more than 10 publications throughout the world on a regular basis.
Over to the membership.
Bye for now
Barnsie
PS: Would alos suggest a similar arrangement for Salcombe Week and its Sponsors.

I also need to fill in the gear guide - we normally show this with the report, but seeing as Y&Y have a feature devoted to it, that makes my life easier.

See bottom of the page, and help me fill in the blanks, thanks.

How do we get the sails modified from the rather amusing little entries that have already been posted?!

Done! I think one of the errors was me, working on auto-pilot without really thinking! Sorry.
