MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Shearwater Vintage - this weekend

The Shearwater Merlins are looking forward to repaying all the generous hospitality we've received on the Vintage crcuit this year as we host a joint event wih the Classic and Vintage Racing Dinghy Association. On Saturday 29th there will be three races counting towards the DeMay trophy starting at 11:00a.m. In the evening there will be a meal in the clubhouse.

On Sunday 30th, within the vintage racing (3 races), there will be a special Cotton Sails event, open to any class of boat with classic cotton sails, which should see the rare sight of the two oldest sailing Merlins, Kate(1) and Iska(6) plus hopefully Terrapin(36) plus an original Hornet or two and others all sailing together with traditional rig.

All vintage Merlins are welcome for one or both days and also any other boat at least twenty five years old, of a class designed before 1965 (stricly NO Lasers!) Camping at the pub down the road or some of us may still have spare bedrooms available.

Sorry to hear about the inlands cancellation but it does give you all chance to dig out your Vintage qualifying boats and come down to Shearwater - beautiful Longleat estate with the house and safari park for the non-sailors and no foot and mouth - we've even got our own DEFRA man on the spot to be sure - just keep clear of his newly restored Hornet ;-)
