Topic : Boat Builder/Repairer in SW London/Kingston

Can anyone recommend a good boat builder/repairer to fix the below damage. I was thinking about having a go at it myself, but its not going to be that easy for an amateur to get a good match

(I was on starboard....)

Thanks

Don't know about anyone good in SW London/Kingston but recommend Laurie Smart down at Haywards Heath.

Joe McLaughlin recommended Laurie - I called him last week and left a message, will try again. To be honest I'd like to find someone more local if I could, purely for laziness reasons.

Thanks anyway !

From the Noble Marine site there's Brett Dingwall in St Albans...

Our Merlin's previous owner used them for various services - boat still looks good. I'm advised to avoid the ones in Eton/Windosr - not for the quality of work, but the cost!

Alan Jackson is in Billericay. Lawrie Smart is also a craftsman.

Neither will disappoint!

Best repairer to the west of London is Stanley and Thomas, at Romney Lock, Windsor. Have a look at Mark Stanley's website - www.stanleyandthomas.co.uk. Mark has repaired several boats for me, all excellent workmanship, and he likes a challenge !

John

Really and truthfully I would make a morning of it and take a trip to Laurie's yard in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Easy trip M25 onto M23, come off M23 on to A272, head east straight through HH high street hang a right at the bottom roundabout, 1/2 mile turn left down rocky lane, another 1.5 miles under bridge turn left into Clearwater Farm, really, really easy and quick tripand well worth it.

His work with wood is amazing and quite frankly when he has done the repair you won't even know where the repair is, trust me he is one of the last true professionals.

John,

Another vote for Lawrie. My Bad Company had a section of rot around the port shroud and the job Lawrie did was amazing. Lawrie really is a craftsman. If you want to see the job he did I'm happy to show you at Tammy one Sunday.

Cheers

Chris

Hi John,

have you tried to get hold of Ted Neil who is based at Tamesis? Might save you a few travelling headaches.

Thanks for all your replies !

I think the vote is for Laurie. Doesnt sound like that bad a haul to get down there. I'll give him another ring today.

Ted Neal cant do it for personal reasons which is a real shame as he is right on the doorstep so to speak.

Thanks again !

John,

Not sure what number you have? No doubt the 01444.... but try: 07976 536922 this is Steve Jevons mobile. Steve works with Laurie and has done for many years, partners in crime in effect but a bit like Lauries secretary! Steve takes the calls, as I don't believe Laurie has yet moved into the 21c with modern mobile technology! Stev will discuss everything with you, times, slots, everything that needs to be done etc, etc.

Cheers

Richard
