This may have ben discused before but being new to the fleet I thought I would ask the question.
Do most clubs use the Merlin PY number?

At Whitstable we race modern Merlins off 1000, and they easily sail to that. Old boats race off the old boat handicaps in the year book

Th really ought to use the age-related bands, as they are endorsed by the RYA, but i know some dont which annoys club racers with older boats.

Thanks for that, at Brightlingsea we are sailing modern boats of the PY1019, certain classes are complaining because they are not winning!! The hadicap does seem very good especialy in light to medium winds.

what are you going to do for the merlins during pyefleet week? I know that you Ossy and Jacko all have new boats (albeit that Jackos is two years old) but what about our 3486?

The new boats will sail on the PY and we will use the handicap system from the Class handbook for other Merlins.

578 went off PY +70. Didn't help much as the wind and waves meant hanging on for much of the course. And its going to get really windy later. Might be something to do with the meteor showers forcasted for tonight and tomorrow. That reminds me to check my boat insurance covers this peril.
