JC - there is consensus on 95% of the route. The 'rogue part' is the A5 from aprox 'Knockin'to Bala.
You can either stay on the A5 and trundle along via Llangollen to Bala, - its longer & slower and will keep you comfortably numb.
- or if you can't stand staring at the back of a caravan for any longer, you can come off the A5 at Knockin, hit the B roads and head West, direct to Bala over the mountains. This is quicker but takes a lot of concentration & a good navigator. Either way, Pwllheli is still at least an hour from Bala

Try via michelin, it gives a good route. Stick to trundling in Wales they are pretty hot on speed. I had a warning letter for 32 in a 30 zone. Slightly higher and I would have probably got a ticket; most other people on the campsite did!
