With the nationals only a week away, does anyone have any thoughts on who will walk away with the title this year?

It is seldom that anyone "Walks away" with ant Merlin Trophy, the competition is tight.
But Winder, Gilbert, Warren, Whitworth and Rainey have all to be in with a shout, recent "form" suggests Gilbert a shaded favourite. But big fleets new sails etc....! Going to be a lot of fun.

I would have Roger Gilbert as favourite, after his performance at Salcombe. But I don't think you could discount any of the classes "Big Guns". I think Mr Winder and Mr Whitworth will be there or there abouts, Will Warren is coming back into form, though I think Mr & Mrs Bosnia are good for an each way bet. However, you can't discount any of the regular top ten teams.

cheers

Rich

Gilbert will choke under the pressure.

Barnes to win followed by Scroggies then Emery in bronze.

So I went to the results page and did + F then typed "King" and it didn't come up with anything so I guess it's open season.

When was the last time anyone won Salcombe with 4 firsts and a second? Gilbert 'walked away' with that one beating most of his potential rivals on the way. A different crew but I still say he'll do the same at the champs.

Scroggie Senior is going very quickly at Rock (Camel Week) this week. Poor Scroggie Junior is struggling to keep up, although having Glen Truswell crewing is helping Daddy I am sure. Worth an each way punt?

This is not Northern water, but Welsh water; nice Welsh water!

If the winner is to be big and northern Boris should be a good outside bet

I see Pat and Jilly winning at least two races.

What about John Pink and Mega Rach aka King of Cowes?

What about a sweep stake on how often Wasser shouts 'Dad, what are doing' at the windward mark?

More likely that he says that on the start line with 5 seconds to go.

Hope I'm not tempting fate, but it looks like it might be a windy one. That should sort the girls from the ladies.

Both WindGuru and xcweather are predicting a big blow on Tuesday, probably not sailable (F7 and 3.7m waves) abating to F5 for Wednesday before coming in even harder on Thursday F8, 4m waves. But Thursday is a long way off for weather forecasting. I will make sure I take plently of tent-pegs and guy ropes nevertheless

If you check the met office I quote
This is the first warning of disruption due to Severe Gales and Heavy Rain. The Met Office is forecasting a period of very windy and wet weather to affect the UK during Tuesday and Wednesday next week. At this stage, it seems that southern and western coastal areas will see the strongest winds with severe gales and gusts of 60-70mph.

I think The Philly Factor will come into play
Tip #-2: Metal masts - for the gent who prefers that .. longer sail!!

P.S. take that spare mast!!!
Have a great week.
