Hi all, I know there are no restricitions on rudder size, dimensions & materials but can anyone give standard or recommended dimensions? Would a larger rudder be prefereable for sea sailing over inland? Cheers!

Generally a deep rudder is better than a short one - the narrow (front-back) ones tend to lose "feel" and are easy to stall unintentionally (lack of feel). The "triangular" ones seem to be popular (presumably a balance of the above)

Would that be one with a T-foil or without?!! Seriously, I'll measure mine when I get home later in the week and give you the dimensions. Give us your email and I can send a drawing. Andy

My rudder measures pretty well exactly 1m from the tip to the underside of the lower pintle fitting on the rudder. Allowing for the distance to the waterline (11.5cm) this makes the true rudder length ~88.5cm. The maximum chord is 24cm at the waterline and this narrows to a swept back tip that looks like its been modelled on a Killer Whale's fin!

Thanks AndyC! That's all I was wondering about.
