MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Hayling this weekend

Hi All,

Here is the link to the NOR for this weekend at HISC.

It is a joint event for Merlin's and Fireballs. Sunday alone counts for the ST, although the NOR implies that racing is available for Merlins on the Saturday as well - I will check this out and confirm asap.

Sailing will be in Hayling Bay and count as a Sea meeting for ST purposes.

The club really enjoys entertaining the Merlin Rocket fleet - they consider our nationals there in 2005 one of their most successful ever - and wheel out the best race team available for us. Accommodation at the club is likely to be booked up by the meatballs - their meeting being a 2-day affair - but there will be full catering etc available as usual.

Look forward to seeing you there for one of only two more chances to practice sea sailing before the champs!

Any questions, please feel free to call me.

Hi All,

Latest update...

Amendments are being made to the NOR as follows:

Official Racing is NOT being provided for MR's on Saturday - although visitors are welcome to attend the club, pay a day rate (£21) and sail anyway. The summer handicap series is in full swing so you could join in that is you wish - there may be a couple of local MR's out?

To reflect the one day open the entry fee will be a much more realistic £16 instead of the published £32.

Racing will be in the bay and start times are all as published.

See you there!

Mags, have you STILL not sorted the gloves issue despite the screeds of advice from this forum!!!!

I don't want blood all over my boat again - see you Sunday (just time to give that nice Tony at Sailsport a bell and order some Gill gloves)

Unfortunatley it doesn't look like you'll need gloves at the moment. Still time for that to change though.

I did the reasearch, and secured a chandlery voucher for my birthday....just didnt get round to buying the damn things!

Don't need to go to a chandlery for builder's grip! Wickes'll do. Can't beat them in my humble opinion...

There is a surprisingly effective chandler on site if the gloves prove an essential addition.

CU there

12 Knots forecast - just about perfect!

At Shoreham last time we shared a meeting with the meatballs we were lapping in more or less identical times.. Lets see if we can't beat them round the course this time!

Cu there

But raining like hell, at least we'll not need to hose the boats down!

I think the rain all goes through today and Hayling will be clear apart from perhaps the odd shower saturday and sunday.

That's what the bbc reckon anyway.......

Hey Chris,

Don't go with the BBC weather reports they are C*&p! Last Saturday and Sunday was reported to be rain and thunder for Sussex, had the warmest two days for god knows how long, actually got the paddling pool out for the kids! Missus wasn't very well though so couldn't enjoy it!

Bah, you lot will be just about starting by now...and I'm stuck at home.

I guess Andrew couldnt face my crewing a second time, and faked car trouble to get him out of it...?

Sorry Mags, if you had seen all the steam and fumes you wouldn't have thought I was faking it. I just got 15 miles from home and the head gasket on the MG failed. As the AA won't take the boat home, just the car, I put the water from the water bottles into the radiator and limped back home.

Have a good sail everyone :-<

That's what you get when you run an MG of any age or type.

Only kidding! But it seemed such a perfect day for it.

I still had a good weekend though - finished the latest Harry Potter book at 2am last night. Bloody good stuff.

The ST points are (I think - subject to alteration!):

1. William Warren/Chris Robinson
2. Rachel and Dave Dobrijevic
3. Alex Jackson/Chris Downham
4. Glen Truswell/Davo.

Highly varied day's sailing. Stonking 2nd race. Great stuff.

Just an update in case anyone is following the sad saga. Turns out I had blown a hole in a piston so bye-bye engine and a nice big bill for the new one. Continuing sadness being that with the large bill and the new engine still running in driving all the way to North Wales with a Merlin in tow seems a less attractive idea now so even the Nationals look unlikely.

On the plus side am typing this in deepest Provence where the sun is shining and average daytime temperatures are consistently above 30 C with end to end sunshine.
