I had a good sturdy cover from Waveloft too as he custom makes them which for the much older boats is a Godsend. I saw a cover a friend of mine got for a Miracle at £105 and it was very poor - thin material. Very lightweight to put on but I do wonder how long it will last. Mine was £125 delivered last year and is well made.

Garry recommended Waveloft to me on this forum and I ordered a boom-up cover for my boat no. 1395 from Waveloft in February, it arrived a few days later. It's made of a tough plastic coated material and cost 138.50 including delivery. My one small reservation is that I had to make 35 measurements on my boat to ensure they made a cover that fitted snugly. It doesn't take long but must be done accurately, we must have gone slightly wrong at the bow where it looks a bit odd but nevertheless it is totally waterproof. If your boat is a modern 'standard' design they may already have all the necessary measurements already.

I was impressed by Waveloft's service and attention to detail.

my p&b cover like most other suppliers required measurements - they hadn't done one for a disguys, but even if they had there are variations in beam and transom width between different examples of the same model!. fit isn't perfect but well acceptable (probably my measures!-) the quality of the polycotton is excellent - don't even think about getting a pvc one if you have a wooden boat.
My grp waybarge has a banks pvc cover which fits perfectly and is great quality, but wayfs are one design so it should fit!

Ive just oredered a cover from Trident UK, had to fill out a measurement form but that was straight forward enough to do. was the cheapest i could find at about £150 for a flat pvc cover. Not got it yet though so cant say how good it is.

polycotton john? is that because a pvc one will ruin the varnish!? is a boom up cover best i noticed the flat cover lays on the decks and makes them sweat?

thanks

I just got 18 metres of cover fabric at Beaulieu for £80. That should do a boom up for the fat Merlin and either two laser covers or a Lark cover. Webbing, cords and clips were another tenner. Undercover material came from Point North.
Boom up covers allow more room for air to circulate and usually drain the water off better. Flat are useful for towing and cheaper.

when I got my boat quite a lot of damage had already been done to the varnished decks because the old pvc cover had trapped water and held it against the decks. Drying out in the sun then ruins the varnish. I bought a good quality polycotton overboom cover and the boat has remained ok underneath for the past 3 seasons. Surprisingly, given the hole round the mast and shrouds etc, although well sealed, the boat remains completely dry underneath even after heavy rain, any moisture breaths out through the cotton. One thing though - if you don't have an under cover, the paintwork showing will fade, and also the varnish on the transom has gone dark and has blistered where exposed to the sun as the cover only shields part of it. Cover your varnished rear end!

Noted, Miles.
Was that the blue one, at least 10 years old hanging on to 3112 on a wing and a prayer when I bought her a few weeks ago? Trident seem to be mid range in price so I may give them a try.
Cheers Peter

Sorry to interrupt thread

Peter, nope - 3112 already had a cover when I bought her. New boat cover I have bought was bought 3 months ago for 3646.

I bought i cover for my old NSM4 from Speed, the sail makes couldnt read roman numerals so they cut me one for an NSM2 - Needless to ay it didnt fit, 2 weeks later the right cover turned up fitted like a dream, trouble was i ordered a PVC one which Killed the varnish on the boat!

PVC covers and varnish dont hit it off at all. For the little extra outlay you need to go for breathable polycotton.

Having said all that, I have a PVC cover for my OK, albeit the decks are painted, it is a boom up cover so there is plenty of air movement plus with boom up virtually none of the pvc comes into contact with the deck gathering moisture, etc.

I spent about a week getting quotes and finally settled for a Sail Register poly cotton. Choice was a combination of price, the website pictures, and having seen one at my sailing club fitting perfectly. After ordering I was contacted to check whether I had left a zero off the transom to hoop measurement, which I had, and which seems to prove that the cutters can apply commonsense as well as follow measurements. Final proof will be on delivery, of course.

Received cover for 3112 from Sail Register 2 weeks after ordering. Perfect fit except that they had cut the mast opening in line with the shrouds. Dismay and profuse apologies. Returned cover via courier, no hassle except getting it to the depot round the corner. Replacement arrived within another 2 weeks. Quality is as expected and mast opening is in the right place but I haven't been able to check the fit because boat is inverted while I try to top coat the hull.
