Topic : Carbon Boom

I'm looking to upgrade my NSM2 3285 and need a carbon boom. If anyone has one they wish to sell can you please let me know. I'm not looking to be at the front of the fleet so anything would be considered (damaged, broken etc.). Please e-mail me if you can help.

Thanks Barry. I gave RS a call but it seems they don't currently have any suitable broken masts. Anyone got any other suggestions? I only use the boat for "yotting about" so don't really want to buy a NEW boom, just fancied something in carbon to go with the carbon mast!

I cant get hold of the cheap booms any longer as the tool we used to make them came to the end of its life..

I've been looking at the Cherub Website and might consider building my own boom (I like a challenge!). Does anyone happen to know the dimensions of new Merlin booms? I assume the lenght must be slightly in excess of the "normal" foot length of 2503mm, but what about the diametre? Asking the wall thickness might be pushing my luck I suppose?

Try any windsurfing club for broken windsurf carbon masts. Small diameters but thick walls & quite light. Should be adequate.

Mike - I actually have a broken carbon fibre wind-surfing mast from about 10 years ago. It is the bottom section of a 70% Carbon mast but when I started to look at it in comparison with the commercially available Merlin booms it obviously had a smaller section and I dismissed the idea. Your suggestion has reignited my interest. Has anyone successfully made such a boom. I don't really want to risk ripping a sail on a broken boom if someone has already tried it. (No point in reinventing the wheel if it's been done before!)
