MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Kevin Driver - Let It Ride

As some of you will be aware, following our painful and expensive sailing divorce in 2005, 2007 has seen Davo and I “patch things up” and re-convene our persuit of harmonious and fulfilling sailing bliss!

I believe married couples refer to this state as mutual tolerance?

Anyway, on the basis we can’t sail both boats at the same time and I am currently financial challenged by relocation to Poole, 3543 Storm Cloud is now for sale.

Complete package as is - £6,750

A rare chance to purchase a fast, immaculate, Driver - Let It Ride?

I take it Storm Cloud has found a new home then?! I notice that Chris has sold his tales.

Yes, both boats have new homes within days of being advertised. Can only be a good sign for the class!

We do have what seems a major shortage of newer secondhand boats, though i do know few of the one-string boats need to be advertised.

A good time to upgrade i feel?

Wish I could Chris but I can't afford it! Would have bought Storm Cloud or yours if I could have!

Chris I had no idea you were that keen to get your hands on the old boats prize at the nationals!!!!!
Although I think Mr Lee (3546) might be in the mix as well.....

Chris has been very crafty, as 3543 is the top of the list for 10+ year olds this year.
But he does have to watch out for Dan in Gangster.

Crafty indeed!!

We intend to do more than win old/prime of life boat prizes, as for whether we will or not we'll just have to wait and see............

Of course you could always forgo the old boats prize and leave it to the REAL old boats!!!!

So does that mean you're going to get your finger out and get 3466 back on the water then Tony? ;)

However, I think there is a valid point here - the Championship old boat prize has always been very keenly contested in mid fleet and it would be a shame if this element of the week was lost. Given that the Driver Let it Rides are still top level competitive with latest spec rigs, and most of them are in the hands of keen regulars on the ST circuit, perhaps it is time to review the "old boats" definition?

At the Inlands, last year, the old boat prize was switched to 20 years old boats, and the same will apply this year too (3391 or earlier), although in 2005 the Inlands old boat prize was 10 years or older it was still won by a boat 18 years old at the time (3394 WAPB, unfortunately misses out being 20 years old this year as it was registered in January, so it will probably stay in my garage for another year before we go pot hunting with her)

There will be prizes at the Champs for two categories of old boats. "Mature" boats - with numbers up to 3392 - will compete for a different prize than the "Prime of Life" boats - numbered from 3392 to 3543. So there should be plenty of incentive for owners of boats of any age.

Don't forget to sign up on the Champs build-up pages to indicate you want to come to Pwllheli - a great help to the organisers, and encouragement for those who haven't made their minds up yet!
