Topic : Kick Bars?

The famous Jacko "Parrot" is now being helmed by a "I must modify that", vertically challenged Cherub sailor, with a slow old git at the front end (me) - Can anyone advise whether 'kick bars' are class legal? and if so, can they be constructed from carbon/foam sandwich? I have looked at the rules but I am unsure of the interpretation: -

(iv) The same materials shall be used throughout the construction of
the bare hull shell except in areas subject to high local stress
and within 100mm of the sheerline, in the centreboard case
sides and the transom. No materials other than wood, plywood,
closed cell structural foam, glass, polyester and epoxy based
resins, paint and fillers are permitted to form part of the bare hull
shell.

Questions questions! You should never kick the bar - you could spill the beer and may never get served.

Heaven Sent has granny steps on the lands of the planks in wood and they are extremely helpful even if you are a person of conventional elevation. My understanding being that as they are not a structural part of the hull you could make them out of whatever you like as you can the decks etc. GGGGG will adjudicate if I am wrong again

Ian L is right. The only bar Jacko ever kicked was in the Kings Head at Salcombe - after he had lost yet another bottle of red.

Seen plenty of carbon foot steps on boats, e.g. 3618. Winder I think use piece of wood(?), coated in non slip and then painted.

I don't have one on current boat so sometimes push off the top of the casing by hoop. Seems plenty strong enough and not caused any damage.

maybe you should acquire some though ross so that when the more vertically challenged amongst us sail your boat we can actually get up onto the decks!

Kick bars are legal and the material is optional, since they do not form part of the hull shell, being reinforcement in a location of 'high stress', a state which seems to affect all helmsmen at one time or another!

True, the kick off from the C/B case gets you onto the side deck in perching position but not over the edge hence the granny steps/kick bars. This also providing explanation for absence of same on Pass the Parrot unless anyone can produce photographic evidence of Jacko hiking?
