Topic : Winder Lifting Rudder

Anyone know of a used lifting rudder for winder MK1 C/T for sale. I have a carbon fixed but would prefer a lifting rudder especially for Salcombe.
Any help appreciated.
Regards John Haynes

That would be a first i'm afraid.

Fixed ones come up once in a blue moon, but i don't ever remember a lifting one coming up for sale.

Keith Bond has an oldish advert with various rudders/stocks/tillers on it.

Definatley won't be Winder ones, or the latest shape but he might be worth a call.

I'm not sure why anyone would sell a winder lifting rudder, although I have one that I have broken the tip off, and I'd sell that for £30 less than the price of a new one to save me doing the repair.

Alan,

you wouldn't happen to have a old rudder stock knocking about that you would part with? £? Need one to convert my OK fixed rudder to lifting.

Thanks

Richard

Graham, I might be interested - any chance of emailing some pics? Any dimensions would be useful.

Richard,

I had not appreciated that you are another OK man. We have some great OK Dinghy events over here, ask Nick Craig.

Hi Rod,

Yes. I had to give up my old Merlin 3478 last year due to family commitment and lack of crew so the ideal choice of boat was the OK. Good weight carrier and all round generally a fun boat to sail. A number of current and ex Merlin sailors own and sail OK's. Dave Lee 3546, Jeremy Deacon 3550, Me x3478, Russ Hopkins x3374 and Terry Curtis x3544, to name but a few! I believe Terry Curtis is currently the French National Champion! Can't be bad.

MMM its all coming back to me? My broken rib Yes Drunk, Hywel`s leg motorbike crash,, someone, drinking olive oil? the car jumping, the ferry trip when I asked Deepy if the bar closed at a certain time and No was the answer until at ???? 0`clock last orders rang?? then the following morning got lost on the ferry?? Or at least couldn`t find Tom! Good man he waited and the elders directed us to more beer?? Jersey bring it on?? Cheers AAAALLLLEEEZZZZ!!!!

It seems the Ok is the choice single hander for all ex merlin helms, doesnt it richard. just wish the forum was as well used as our beloved merlin forum.

Richard, I have about half a douzen OK rudders in my garage, fixed and lifting. They all need a bit of TLC but you are welcome to one if it is of any use?

I only ever use a fixed rudder with my OK.

I agree that OK's and maybe Solo's seem to be the perfect second boat to a merlin, a bit of old school class!!

When re-ribbing 111 two winters ago I had 1728 in there plus a tumble drier AND and it's a single garage. I had about 18" down one side to work and every time I wanted to work on the other side I had to move the trailer across!! Also note the mast which JUST fits in diagonally - thank goodness it was cut to 21'6" rather than 22'6" otherwise I would have been in big trouble!!!
