MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Builders

Hi. Anybody give me a clue where to find info on builders, or ex builders. I have been looking for something on Taylor built Cant Tails?

Are you sure you mean Taylor? A quick scan of the year book and can not find a builder of that name listed, unless I missed it?

Closest is Naylor.

I did wonder about that. There is an ebay merlin advertised which I think the owner said was a Taylor.

That'll be Turner.
I had Carrerra 3488(a Turner Tales) she was awesome, great fun to sail, responsive and tough as old boots.
A very good cheaper alternative to the later Winder boats.

3477 is a Canterbury Tales with hull built by Turner Dinghies at Cullompton, Devon in 1991 and finished by her original owner.

Looks a pretty good deal, especially since its a Turner hull. I guess people have been put off by the space frame and short foredeck, which shouldn't be an issue unless in a chop. I'd put in a bid but I fear a mighty backlash on the domestic front! Maybe next year. Does anyone know if it is down to weight?

Brian,

You cannot go wrong with a Turner Tales. My old Merlin was an FRP T/Tales and a dream to sail.

3477 is a nice boat and worth a bid - might even just be better off contacting the owner who's details are on the for sale list on this website, as is the boat, and ask to see it/make an offer, saves money all round then!

It has got to be aworth a bid, i'm sure it has been on ebay before. Space frame wouldnt worry me, surely must make it stiffer?? painted decks would be only thing to concern me, but for that price what a load of boat for your buck

It's always had painted decks, it's not a cover up.

23 minutes left, looks like a bargain.

I am so tempted to put in a bid, cause to get it for £1200 would be great, but I just can, I think Sue would kill me if I did. 4 Merlins is too many.

what did it go for in the end, i would of loved to buy it but my better half would also kill me and then who would cook the christmas dinner?

Highest bid £1280 but not sold as did not reach reserve.

Brian,

if you are interested make him an offer, it is on the for sale list too, see link, I don't know what he would take, but I would guess £1750 might do it, and that would be a pretty good deal I think.

What blasphemy is this?

We are relying on you Alan to set the precedent for us mere mortals.

Boats need to be sailed, otherwise they are no longer boats but garden ornaments.

Alan,

couldn't agree with you more, its the reason that I have sold Millennium Falcon on. I can't see myself being on the water for at least another 12 months..................

The garden ornaments also become a major factor in house purchasing!!

Oh, but golly, what GREAT ornaments they are. I'd be delighted to own 4 and not be able to sail them. Just think of the fun I could have...just pottering around them in the evenings...

oh er - doesn't sound quite right that -

Oh poppett I never thought you cared!!

I would like to - just trying to convince the 'Piranha Fish' that going sailing in a Merlin every other Sunday and leaving her with two screaming kids is all for a good cause!

I assume if I get the thumbs up you would like me to pick the boat up and keep it in chez West Sussex so that I can track the leak?
