Hi Jacko,

Just a pause while I relive the experience and muster the best adjectives....

Wobbly; jelly belly, hevvvvyyy, leaky, unreliable... I could go on..

Just about as far removed from our own Merlin Rocket as it is possible for a similar length 2 man hiking boat to be - it is good to sail one just to remind me how lucky we are.

The breakage tally I am aware of for the weekend includes (not forgetting that these are Brand New Boats - fresh from the factory which we assembled ourselves from the kits provided on Friday)

Tom & Chris - one rudder pintle, 1 cunningham cringle pull out
Willy & Chris Robinson - 2 toestraps (on successive tacks, leading to a replacement hull- no kidding)
Rob & Rach - a hull full of water
Matt Mee & Pottsy - broken rudder
5 other rudders
1 dissolved spi halyard sheave - first hoist
plus others I can't recall details of..

Has to be said though that the winners, Nick Craig & James are very impressive yotters, despite the blobbies we were sailing.

Hope none of this is actionable!

GGGGG

Just because they have big black spinnakers doesn't mean that you have to buy one Jacko, just get the yellow thing in the shed done, if not I'll give you five bob for it.

The old saying is to be changed to "As exciting as watching plastic osmose"

"The Topaz XENON is seriously tough and virtually maintenance free"
Hull weight is 118kg plus metal rig.
Don't know how much they are but I guess less than the second hand Merlin we've recently bought :-)

Topaz used to be the name of an international paint, my graduate was finished in it ! kind of a rubbish butterscotch colour ! Nuff said!

I must declare an interest as my crew has a xenon and we rotate between that and the merlin. As has been said elsewhere on this thread, there's no comparison between the two boats - the merlin is a thoroughbred and a pleasure to sail and the xenon isn't!
