According to the book, the second one, 1085, appears to be the only Adur 4 built.

I nearly bought 1085 "Uppashade" from George Slack in 1960. The problem was he wanted £150 and the boat didn't have sails or a cover, so I didn't!!
Up until then the Adur boats had very full bows - Uppashade was a bit slimmer but not nearly as slim as the subsequent Adurs.

i have just acquired (also from eBay) sail number 1067, VISA : Does anybody have any history for her?? (she, at the moment, requires redecking, revarnishing/repainting inside and out, and some finding/replacment of fittings). however i hope to have her back in the water by Jan 2007: hold me to my word please!!!

According to the recent yearbook it is a Jack Holt Tequila design (take with a pinch of salt!!) and was built by Jack Holt Ltd in 1960, but the name was/is Verbica. I am sure that others would have more info regarding past ownership. Good luck with the rebuild/restoration. Hope you are retired and have 26 hours in the day between now and January!! In my experience they always take longer than you think but go for it and see you at the Vintage events next year. Also see the CVRDA site and forum section as they are very helpful if you need advice or bits.

I have been renovating 1661 since 2001! Admittedly there has been a house renovation aswell as 5 house moves and a couple of wars to content with but the boat is nearing completion after much painstaking work. I'm told she (Rocketeer)is an Adur 7 built in 1964 by J Deadman and C Brooks in Littlehampton. One of the last jobs is working out how the mast brace is fitted to the underside of the foredeck and how it fits with the mast. Any ideas?

I had the first Adur 7 no. 1502. The mast was not supported at deck level in the convenional way. Instead a substantial piece of wood shaped rather like a tuning fork projected from the back of the foredeck which I think was meant to slide back and forth to control the mast bend. It's difficult to remember after 43 years but I think we fixed it permanently and used mast chocks to control the bend.

There are two Adur 7s sailing regularly at Tamesis - 1605 and 1631. Their owners both come onto this forum from time to time, you're more likely to get a positive answer from one of them.

1067 was called "Boss' Successor" when she was owned by G A Keighley at Burwain SC in 1962.
The 1968 YB shows the owner as P R Hawley at Burwain SC and a change of name to "Verbiea".
He or she didn't join the MROA and there is no records in later year books of further owners.

That's interesting Tony. The origional 'Tequila' no. 921 was built for my boss Rodney Collier. My dad Harry Harris also had one built, she was called 'Jubilee' no. 945 and was named after a boat my grandfather had before the war.

This design was supposed to be Jack Holt's answer to Ian Proctor's MK XI. My brother John sailed her most of the time with moderate success. Jack built my dad's most successful boat 'Passing Cloud' no. 1079 a year later and John's still racing her at Tamesis with considerable success.

Both 1605 and 1631 had similar mast brace type contraptions and both have been modified by extending a piece of the fordeck backwards to create a gate that the mast fits snuggly into.

This has the effect of stopping lateral movement of the mast at deck level and make the rig considerably more efficient.

The brace contraption is not a good idea as it does not hold the mast with enough stability, remodelling is required.
