Done that but one question remains unanswered - DJs and posh frocks or jeans and T shirts? The answer will probably determine which of my lady friends I'll bring!

By: Robert Harris
My bet is that its slinky dresses but possibly sequinned jeans might do. More importantly how many ladies do you have to choose from? Maybe they could all come.

By: The Minx
Is that The Minx, trying to get to be Mr Harris's date?

By: Merlin Dating agency
Several. They all came to my 70th party at Tamesis last Saturday except for the one who's taxi driver couldn't find the 'yacht club' in Teddington!

I have my own date, but don't really have the dress to go with it so the dress code is of just as much interest to me as it is to popular Robert.

By: The Minx
A question has been raised about the dress code for the birthday party at
Upper Thames Sailing Club. The requirement is smart casual which provides a
wide range of options. It is an open meeting with camping available over the
weekend so black tie is asking a bit too much but we hope that people will
dress up for the occasion. The sequined jeans referred to in Robert's
comments sound like an interesting alternative!

By: Russell Connor
Actually the sequinned jeans were my suggestion but I'm sure one of Robert's ladies might have a pair.

By: The Minx
Not Robert himself?

By: Mags
O.K. One of my lady friends has accepted my invitation to the 60th so now I'll buy the tickets

Posted: 28/08/2006 18:15:53
By: Robert Harris
P.S. As far as I know she's not the Minx and whether or not she'll wear sequinned jeans is a question I wouldn't dare to ask!

By: Robert Harris
oh no she's not the Minx

By: The Minx
I know who the minx is Robert, you don't want to be taking "her" anywhere....

Is that Mike aka. Dudley's dad?

Posted: 29/08/2006 11:44:09
By: The Minx
I don't think Mike is Dudley's dad - but near enough?
Anyway UTSC need to know who is going to be there - The Minx dosn't seem to be on the list (along with about 50 others?)
It realy helps the organisation if you tell us who is coming - maybe Ancient Geek would like to show up?

Your probably right about the parties but I prefer a quiet time apres sailing I'm afraid sailinh with a hangover no longer has the attraction it did.
Enjoy yourselves!

Pat and Jilly's message of the 31st August said food at 7.15 whereas the UTSC flyer says 7.30 for 8.00. Having told my lady to be ready at 7.00 how on earth can I now say, "Sorry love but I'm sure I said 6.15"!!? Can someone please confirm the flyer is correct.

Thank you

My lady's just told me she's working until 6.00 pm next Saturday so my previous post is irrelavent because we can't arrive at UTSC before about 7.45. However other people might want to know what time the party starts.

Just noticed my name is down on the list for the party, i wont be there on the saturday night but will be there on the sunday for the open.. Laughing at all those with hangovers!!

By: Rob W
We'll only be there on the Sunday too because we have a wedding on the Saturday, so we haven't put ourselves on the list. Probably still have hangovers though Rob, but don't laugh!

For all of you who have been asking for more details about the event of the year, here goes…

Saturday:
Two races (2 to count) for the beautiful Spade Oak Bowl- first start 1400; Buffet - 1930 prompt (to allow more time for partying!); Menu – served summer buffet; followed by band ‘Swing 42’ and party till late.

Sunday:
Three races for the Allen Challenge Cup (2 to count) – first start 1100; flights more than likely (!); Separate starts for vintage/classic fleet trophies – first vintage/classic start not before 1110; Prize giving 1630 (approx – subject to protests!)

Oh! So why did the flyer say 19.30 for 20.00?

Should also advise that at about 8-ish we will be formally awarding the honorary life memberships to John & Margaret Stokes, and to Peter Flanagan which were approved by the AGM at Salcombe.

Nothing too heavy or prolonged, just a proper recognition of the award.

Your support for this very welcome,

Why the separate start for the vintage boats....?

Given that a vintage boat has probably won half of all 'up river' open meetings in the last 3 - 4 years, it seems ridiculous to exclude them.

Lets at least make a decision on the day depending on the number of entrants. For me, I am happy to enter my vintage boat (1605) in the main event, but my crew also likes to have a crack at the vintage prizes...

By: Andy Harris
Alan and Sue, I don't want to be a kill joy but the flyer did say 7.30 for 8 and my crew has reorganised his flight back from Holland at expense to get there for 8pm. It is a shame that he is now going to miss the food for the sake of an extra half an hours partying, and even i enjoy a good party!!

Is there anything that cane be done? maybe stick to the advertised time scale?

All being well, Mr, Mrs and baby Flipper will be along to watch on Sunday.

Alan, Is the Spade Oak Bowl open to all ages of boat and run on handicap as it was last year or is it just a vintage race now?

Posted: 05/09/2006 22:31:01
By: Jeremy3550
Andy - the Allen Challenge Cup is open to any age of boat - you can elect on the day to sail for either that or the vintage/classic trophies. The separate starts are at the request of the regular vintage/classic fleet who generally have their own circuit and prefer not to mix it with the fatter boats.

Jeremy/Worried Man - Don't worry - there's no danger of the food running out by 8! We just want to make sure things are well under way in time for the presentations.

The Spade Oak Bowl is open to all ages of boat and results will be based on the NMROA handicaps.

Looking forward to seeing all the Flippers......and anyone else who wants to spectate and support from the bank....

I agree with Jeremy. My plans for Saturday evening were also based on the times of 19.30 for 20.00 given in the flyer. Some people have to work on Saturdays - not me but my guest and having paid £50 for the tickets I'm going to be pretty sore if we can't get to UTSC in time for the buffet.

I noted the words "Served" summer buffet. Hopefully that ensures everyone gets a standard portion including latecomers. Though the Tammy hog roast was "served"....

By: PJ
Top tip: Don't let anyone have 2nds before everyone who's paid has eaten! Otherwise that hog will turn around and bite you in the arse. enjoy ;)

I thought the Hog roast at Tammie was great although i did not go for seconds as the bar was calling! I think Ranelgh must have had the same problem.

Vegetable - Vegi option is Roasted sweet potato, feta and spinach tart; Tortilla wrap filled with cajun Quorn chicken, spring onion and sour cream. Don't all rush, we've arranged a limited number only, please let us know when you enter for the event and buy/collect your tickets.

Andy - and we are not even supposed to be the organisers!!!
