Might have one circa 1985, might need some work and pretty heavy. p.s. how heavy are you really (re potential crewing to learn post elsewhere)

Having just got hold of 3408 which I believe is an 1989 boat, I am afraid I can't help more than that,
Talking to willy warren tonight , 3408 has a big old rudder so maybe size is everything, How big is yours : )

Also you had young jack crewing for you at tenby , who hopefully may be sailing with me next year as we both sail out of the same club at the moment. But I am too heavy at 15.5stone to sit in the front, but I want to do a few races to learn more about merlins

I assume with such a cumbersome rudder that is why your boat is an HBR (Heap Big Rudder) design? Mr Jacko can you help?

I used to own the other HBR, and the origional large blade muct have been lost at some point in the past.

I eventually bought a rather nice blade that Glen Trusswell made himeself for After Hours that was hardly what you'd call big but still much better then the blade i was using which was significantly larger.

from the design guide "Soon on the heels of WAPB - in fact off the same frames - came Heap Big Rudder (so named because the designers last notes to the builder were to stick a very large rudder on the back of all these boats having watched Warren capsize countless times in Once bitten during the windy 1985 Championship) which was simply WAPB with the transom dropped half an inch to reduce the bustle at the rear end. "

1. the rudder I have is off the original WAPB and works fine on her
2. you can ask Alan W himself about the counless capsizes

Alan,
I know we started talking about that lifting rudder that you have sitting around, have you still got it ? 3408 is now starting to look nice and flat and smooth , all that horrible black paint has gone, starting to put together my shopping list of bits I need Lifting rudder is top of the list next to new cover, new poles, new ropes, new centerboard . If you have any bits that you want to sell let me know

Thanks
