Topic : Mainsheet Blocks

I currently have 30mm holt allen blocks(2) on boom plus one lower becket block rwo 38mm. Mainsheetloads seem very high. Any recommendations on best block size & type / mainsheet size. What do the experts use?

First question, is the mainsheet reeved correctly? Jamie Anderson had this problem until the reeving was sorted..

From the becket, aft through the after block on the boom, forward through the becket block on the hoop, forward through the forward block on the boom, down through the forward block on the hoop then through the jammer/ rachet block.

If this is correct and the problem still exists, visit to the gym!

Many boats now use 3:1, ie tied off to the boom in lieu of the becket on the hoop and the aft boom block.

It may be the kicker could be more powerful? Lots to think about!

Hi Graham
I'll check that it is rigged as you suggest! I changed to a 10mm mainsheet but too large for the blocks. I wondered if the 30 mm blocks are too small diameter? Back to the 8mm mainsheet then and check the rigging,
Ron

30mm blocks are fine for 8mm. Many people are changing to 6mm now. (better gloves I guess!) Ropes like Excel Lite are very good as they don't take up water, are light to start with and are soft to handle...
You certainly shouldn't need 10mm....

Thanks for the info. I'll change to 8mm tomorrow and see how it feels
