Thinking on Nicks race win on Wednesday and the years Nicks been racing at Salcombe. To be one of the names that has won a Salcombe race is a brilliant achievement As a fleet we have our icons, the Salcombe Week winners Philip King, Mike Calvert, Richard Whitworth, John Bell But how many one off race winners can we remember? Nick Heginbotham, and?

Nick and Jonny are having an excellent regatta, with the win on Wednesday plus a 4th and a 3rd. Newest boat in the fleet so probably still trying things out. He's in a tough flight too, with the Calverts and Rob Wilder/Rachel Cooper both going well.
Judith crewed by Phil and Jenny with Ellie have both managed to keep all their results including discards in the top 10, which is a bit special.

'ere Shed, didn't you win a race a Salcombe in the Bad Company? You weren't fishing for a mention, were you?
(did you like my move onto the town side in the last race? I must have picked up at least ten places by Ferry steps, and you were looking pretty nervous...)

Old Trout, your tacking left me gulping for breath! Must the Gill gloves you wear.

Word on the street is that Dave WInder has won the week - usual caveats as dodgy source (Davo)

I think 'the shed' could have included my brother John in his list of icons. The Year Book shows that he won Salcombe Week six times between 1964 and 1973. This year crewed by his grandson James he finished 54th in 1079 'Passing Cloud' a boat which is probably older than most of those sailing in the event!

"...the town side flyer is always a hoot" trouble is when it gains you a stack of places the 1st time you always think it will do exactly the same again. Ask Richard Page. I got fixated on it as well after picking up 5 or 6 places on Monday afternoon but after that it probably lost me 25 over the course of 3 races.
The design guide suggests it was the wacky pink thing, WAPB, that won the race at Salcombe?
Lastly, Judith felt a bit cheated to miss out on joining the list on the last 200yds of a race she led off the line & only got a 5th. Ah well, character building stuff as always.

Andrew - thanks for your concern and yes, I did feel mightily cheated but I've been sailing at Salcombe long enough to know that that's Salcombe for you!! No lead is ever big enough down there.
Happy to say that we are already on the list though - we did win a race there about 3-4 years ago in Boadicea, and only got the lead towards the end, so it's swings and roundabouts.
