Martin protested me for foul language during a race at a Tamesis Easter Regatta in the early 80s. I was furious because he didn't give me water at a mark when I was sure I could have removed his rudder if I'd tried. Nevertheless he was right to protest particularly as my teenage son William was crewing me.

I wasn't referred to the RYA and banned which could have happened but I was severely admonished by the protest committee. The most embarrassing aspect of the incident was that I was class chairman at the time!

Dear Mr Blakiooooooo, enjoyed the company of "The Blakes" during BEW this year from what I can remember?? Think your son went for a swim even though he wasn`t sailing?? Best to send Monseniuor Shunter`s new MROA membership to Thames SC as he occassionally partakes in a beverage or two there and rumour has it he is partaking in the Tideway race this year?? Cheers Peeps ALLEEEZZZZZZ!!

I think Robert's anecdote is just great!
'Shunter' was still up to ears in protest forms at Boune End.
For him to compain about foul language!!
Pot and kettles spring to mind.

I still don't have his phone or address to pass on to Colin.

He recently did the same to me during a team race, I took the penalty and protested him out of the whole event for not wearing a life jacket.... ha ha ha

It's the nanny state gone mad.

A more agreeable memory of Martin. A year or two earlier I was lent a Thames 'A' Rater for a race during a Hampton regatta on the River Thames. My daughter Jane and another girl crewed me. Martin sailed the only other Rater that started. It was nip and tuck all the way up to Sunbury, a real match race with each of us leading several times. It was much the same on the way back to Hampton where Martin was leading at the finish. A memorable race sailed in beautiful boats.
