EK, it depends on the design. Singl handed shouldnt be a problem. But cruising and stability in a new design i dont think is an option

I have a NSM1 I occassionaly sail mine single handed and so long as the wind is not to strong it is rather good fun. I have also pottered about with both of my young sons in it, however I wouldn't realy call it cruising. I suppose it depends what you mean by cruising, all day at sea with lockers for food and spare clothes? Then the Merlin is not for you.

Most accurate answers are really a)not very b)not very c)pretty tippy even NSM1 if you compare it to a Wayfarer. Merlins of whatever age have always been designed as racing boats with no compromise in the design for single-handed use or cruising. You can do it but if that's what you want other boats do it better. Buy a Merlin if you are interested in a responsive exciting boat to sail 2-up that can be a handful for the inexperienced, even if not on the scale of the Int14 or RS800.
