Ellie - it's the first summer series race at Tamesis this Sunday. Handicap at 10.30am and class race at 11.15am - same as the winter series just finished. Bound to be someone needing a crew but I could find out.

Is that in an MRx? Is that allowed, or will Miss Bremer forever be barred from Hollingworth!?

It is but wot the hell , sailing with Geoff is a real learning expierience and it will be great sailing on Sunday
Im sailing one too as my mast track is getting a bit of TLC before the hurricanes of Dalgetty bay
We will all be trying Steve cockerills healing to windward bit and shoving our tillers away, wot an excellent talk

I do hope that Ellie will get in the helming practice that she will need!! Col B - can you oversee this!!!!!
Posted: 30/03/2006 10:35:47 By: Garry R |
You have lost me , why the practice needed helming ?
Posted: 30/03/2006 10:55:31 By: Col B |
urm yeah, about scotland... it could be v amusing. there is quite a high probability that i could be helming (this going public could either draw a crowd or just put people right off =/...) im actually a little scared... =(

give us a bell if you need a lift , we are heading out early Friday morning
Dont worry about the sailing can you hack the liquid nectar
Helming a merlin is a doddle anyway always reckon its a crews boat

Ellie you are inspiring me with every moment that passes - we are in this together! Who knows we may enjoy it more than the rest coz they all think they are in with a chance of winning whereas we are realistic

Gary, I sense a great deal of kidology going on here, your boat looked fast the last time out at Wormit and if I am not mistaken did you not buy new batts late on last year! I have a feeling ellie is the new secret weapon.
Posted: 30/03/2006 13:11:29 By: I wonder |
really, a couple of summers ago i was teaching a guy how to helm at the gp nats from the front of the boat. we did alright. finished outside the last 10 boat in every race and when we started he could hardly tack without going onto a reach, nevermind roll tack. this could be the way to go? anyway we can see when we get there! i cant wait!

Wrong boat (1728) for the Batts sorry to say (that is dear old 111 and I'm not risking her in a hurricane (sorry - breeze). I have told Ellie to bring all her personal charms to bear upon the opposition - like warning them she is helming. However if she is doling out personal tuition you just never know - what is this roll tacking nonsense?!!!!
Posted: 30/03/2006 14:38:47 By: Garry R |
as an 18stone helm in a merlin every tack is a roll tack.
Ellie will have no problems, she will get an easy time if she's going to be a weegie for a few years it'll make her an honorary Scott anyway.

Psssst Ellie - don't tell them blokes but helming a Merlin is a damn sight easier than crewing one in my view!! Go for it girl - you'll enjoy it and be absolutely fine! See you there!

There's also the fact that when you are standing on the centreboard surveying the wreckage as the crew you can usually tell the helm what they did wrong rather than vice versa, so it's not all one way!
