Topic : Any measurers in Holland?!

I've had an email from a chap in Holland who needs a Merlin sail measured. Any thoughts?

Anyone who ever did the Loosdrecht Easter Open in days gone by would tell you it's contra indicated.
Anyway surely its reserved for Scotland.
Can an ISAF Measurer measure sails by default?

Mmmm, tricky one.

Seems excessive, but probably the cheapest option is to post them to a UK measurer.. by the time you have done any distance at all to meet up, the package could be half way round the world for the same money!

His sail number is 811 - I dont know what sort of level of racing he does.

Dont let GGG hear this, but....outside of the UK, with a boat this age, do you think it really matters if the sails are legally signed?!

Perhaps, in this age of digital photography and e-mail taking photographs of the measuring tape at the appropriate points might be a way of doing remote measuring where the economics of posting a sail or sending a measurer doesn't work. If the measurer isn't happy with the photos (i.e. it doesn't clearly show the right points have been found)he can ask for more until he is happy

I have often wondered if a statement from a reputable sailmaker submitted to the measurer would suffice. After all if the sailmaker gets it wrong then his reputation is going to nosedive.

To clarify - the statement would come from the guy who made the sails!!

Mags - See me in my study after work. Such sedition cannot be permitted..

However - had you submitted the full facts I would have had to agree with you!

GGGGGG, could you brin g a tape measure with you when you come north. Most of my sails are quite old and the measurers marks are fading out!. awaiting arrival of a new jib as well ect ect ect
