MERLIN ROCKET FORUM

Topic : Merlin 3491

Looking for any info and pictures on this boat if available as considering purchasing and joining the Merlin Fleet. Any other boats for sale would also be considered - budget upto £4.5K for sailing from Warsash on Hamble River and Solent.
Many thanks

Have a look at the bottom 2 pictures on this website under photos, side and stern. The boat shown is 'Coyote' 3491 taken a couple of years ago.

http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/gallery/default.asp?folder=gallery/rigging_guide/general

orginally owned and built by Jon Turner.

I recently sold my Turner Tales (with much regret!!) and she was a dream to sail. If 3491 is still in good nick, whic I am sure she is it is worth a nosey.

Good luck

Very unlikely to be a better introduction to the class. The workmanship from the Turner yard was excellent and these boats have (if looked after, and most have been) lasted well. They were the state of the art at the time and have generally been upgraded to the carbon rig, but were initially supplied with deck-stepped M1's. The epoxy foam sandwich hulls have not generally had the structural problems that the Wembley NSM2's sometimes had and the wooden decks are very pretty if a fiddle/expensive to maintain. The shape is identical to the first run of Winder boats. The sails may be clapped out as may the trailer, but this is what you negotiate on.

3491 is in good nick and so are the trailer, sails, etc. It is currently parked next to my boat (sister ship 3486) and we have had some good racing against ach other, can confirm that she is fast. Wel worth a look
