Where are the Nationals next year? |
Pwllheli S.C. http://www.merlinrocket.co.uk/clubs_events/list_events.asp?year=2007 |
..erm not to be funny here and please don't get me wrong - I love the welsh and all that .. we've got lots of lovely welsh friends ... and no, I don't understand how hard it is to organise the champs .. etc etc .. but why are we in north Wales again for the champs?? We're in Wales this year. |
...which is why we're presumably going to P-welly. I for one think the sailing's fantastic up there, the natives aren't really that unfriendly and it's always good to go somewhere new, non? There's a world of difference between tenby and North Wales too I reckon, and not just in the sailing. Plus, for our Northern and Midland brethren, Salcombe is on the South Coast every year, as are the vast majority of Silver Tillers.... |
plus we can stay in Butlins!?! I've never encountered a real live kicking Red Jacket! That's if they've forgotten about the 1970 champs yet... |
I believe that Pwllheli is a completely seperate sailing club to SCYC (Abersoch) and is round the headland, therefore we should not get in contact with the abersoch crowd, thus we will not suffer from slashed tyres (NB i have never experienced this) |
I used to live in Harlech and still travel down every now and then to meet old chums. An Eight hour trips possible for us Scottish chaps to reach the nationals and correct me if im wrong but this would be the furthest the nationals have ever been?? |
sorry that should read furthest north |
Pwllheli is of course the scene of the largest ever Merlin Nationals entry - some 220 boats! I know that times have changed since the 1970s, but the venue is great with secure boat storage, excellent clubhouse and sheltered launching area - and we get to sail in virtually the same waters as Abersoch. The Club is used to running big events and competitors should be assured of a great week's sailing |
I did the 1970 Merlin Championships at Pwhelli and two other regattas subsequently one at Pwhelli another at Abersoch in bigger yot I can't say they were welcoming at either venue a bit like Falmouth too, the sailing was fine the shore stuff not relavent to me because I avoid all that stuff, Burlins has they say improved a lot these days! (One can get a day pass to leave!)But there are lots of other GOOD venues some even on the East Coast north like Scarboroughor Tynemouth or Brightligsea (European Mirrors) further south Thorpe Bay that the MR Class doesn't seem to have tried yet |
Having done Pyefleet week at Brightlingsea, I can affirm that they know how to run racing and an awesome party. But it is a bit muddy... |
like mud |
This constant bickering about mud!!! |
Same complaint that the Israelites had to Moses at the dividing of the waters!!!! |
And for the next trick - five loaves two fishes and the participation of five thousand members of the audience! |
it's not mud, just thick water |
Perhaps the best Championship Venue is Poole Bay, (However it is all subjective!)if one is permitted to launch off the beach if not (Like China.) its a very long way running the gauntlet of the ferry which has over the years collected quite a few scalps. |
Oi, Shed bloke - where's my quote? |
Burnham-on-Crouch would make an interesting venue. |
I had my Stag Weekend at Butlins in Bognor a couple of years ago...very very funny indeed...didnt see any boats... |
I assume that isn't Ancient Eeek then? |
If you'd been married as many times as me you'd know you're never too old or been there done it for a stag party though these days a good dinner a few bottles of red Burgundy seem more attractive than getting splattered at a Holiday Camp. Oh the noise Oh the people! |
Last time i went to Pwllheli Butlins i was 11 on a school trip don't really remember it much! |
Mud mud glorious mud! |
There is no Butlins at pwllheli any more. It's a 'Haven' park. Lots of statics and speedboats. |
Anyone for some Trailerrr Parrk action a la whitstable!? |
