Anybody got details of the best places to stay in or around Rutland Water for the merlin training. Does anybody who sails the older stuff ie vintage wing go along for the weekend and are there newer boats available to try. im not sure the wife would put up with the snoring on site...but is used to roughing it a bit.. There are some very good places to stay around Rutland for the Rutland training weekend. Just check the accom list off the club website - it's a beautiful part of the world in which to spend a weekend.
I think it would probably be important to take your own boat to Rutland as you will get the opportunity to get help from the instructors on getting your boat set up correctly.
We were a little intimidated last year when we saw all the carbon, but there were older boats than ours (3389) with some hog stepped rigs in evidence and trust me, there is a special buzz reserved for the races at the end of the weekend when you finally manage to overtake someone in a CT!
As for staying on site, check out Mike Stephens article on last years training - I think it might not be the snoring you need to watch out for! I'm sure you'd get masses out of the weekend whatever boat you're in.

Pete,
The training is equally applicable to old/ vintage boats as it is for new boats - please do come along - I guarantee you'll enjoy it.

Yes, I ve been many times as yachter and helper.
You will find that you learn a huge amount. This year, very special, as you get to race a Silver Tiller in between training days and will receive vital coaching as a result.
be there.
