Topic : what kind of proctor mast is that ?

hello all,
i am the proud owner of MR 3065, and i am looking for some info on the kind of proctor mast that was included with the boat when i bought it.
it is keel stepped and it must be the original mast of the boat (1977) since it looks quite old.
all i have is the serial number : 236 058
can anyone tell me what kind of section it is ?

If it has a flat back it's almost certainly a beta minus (long discontinued).

If its the usual, more pointy back then it's almost certainly a D section.

Proctor D's are pear shaped the Betas are oval and as the man states are flat at the back. If you can measure it or take a photo we will all comfirm it for you all the best, Barry
ps early d's were stenciled just that on the heel & proctor logo.

OK, so it's probably a Beta.
does anybody have the section properties of the Beta ? or what is closest section to that in the proctor range today, Kappa ?

I am going to build a carbon tube for my boat and i will just try to get the same properties as the existing alu mast.

The Beta minus is distinctive, with a flat back to the section either side of the sail track. When your boat was built there was a fair bit of experimentation on mast sections going on, with some lightweight flexible ones being used but those are likely to have broken long since! I have had a beta minus. The mast is generally pretty stiff but with a long thin tapering top section that bends off and depowers easily. The shroud attachment tends to be high, a fair bit higher than the jib block, to stiffen the topmast laterally and attempt to induce some prebend lower down.

Only details i have from an old catalogue is for a Proctor Alpha depth 63.5 width 53.0 weight kg/m 0.92 stiffness figures depth 9.6 cms4 width 14.1 cms4, this section also appears to have a "flat back".

I owned Psychic for a couple of years, has she returned from france? If you are interested i have a photocopy of a Y&Y report of the 1977 London boat show where she was displayed reportedly getting the concourse d'elegance prize.
