Just to let every1 know that Merlin 3055 has now been sold, but the Vendor has failed to let second hand man know !!!!

Did you buy it then Russ? I though that would be a bit of a bargin with a Sov Combi under it!

I wanted it for the Combi, i refuse to pay out for a brand new one when i can buy a complete boat with one for less

3011 was also sold ages ago. Why do these people not inform secondhand man to stop the classifieds getting bunged up with old crap

I thought about buying it myself but really don't want another boat! You going to get a rudder for it and re-sell it?

No it had already been sold, i do have 3 rudders so the thought had more then crossed my mind.

Just become the new owner of this merlin 3055.

Really looking forward to getting in the water when i can work out how to rig it!  any one know any history ?  I just bought it from peter.

3055 originally called 'Chinese Puzzle'. A Smokers Satisfaction designed by Phil Morrison and built by Bob Hoare and J H Allen, probably in 1976, for P D Drake, 328 Sandbanks Rd, Lilliput, Poole and Parkstone YC.
The 1980 YB shows the owner as B D Drake, 70 Wedgewood Drive, Poole and in the 1982 YB as E Davidson, Bevois House, Bakers Lane, Chilcompton, Bath and Bristol Corinthian YC.
By 1985 she was owned by T Wilson, 2 Barton Hey, Bishops Lidiard, Taunton.
The next year she had gone to P Hillier, 33 Bury Close, Gosport and Lee on Solent.
The 1989 YB shows the owner as T Evans, 2 Coldwell Lane, Kings Stanley, Stonehouse, Glos.
The 1992 YB records the name change to 'Shogun' and the owner as B Davison, 7 Grove Crescent, Walton on Thames, Surrey KT12 2HT.
In 1993 she was owned by G M Stanley, 34 Kymswell Rd, Stevenage, Herts and the 1994 YB says M Stanley, 52 Larkins Close, Baldock, Herts SG7 5DG.
The 97 YB shows yet another change to D Atchison-Jones, 52 Roxborough Park, Harrow-on-the- Hill, HA1 3AY and C Hughes.
There is a gap in the records until 2001 when she was owned by J M Barker, Beechwood, Start, Slapton , Kingsbridge, Devon TQ7 2QD and Salcombe YC.
The only other record of ownership in the YBs is in 2006 and 2007 with the owner as Peter Holmes, 24 Woodsey Avenue, Cleethorpes, N E Lincs DN35 8TU and Covenham SC.

well done for getting 3055 - I travelled up to look at it but went instead for 3025, another Smokers, as that was all a whole lost closer. Did you have a hefty trip up to get it? If you're anywhere near the South Coast come along to Netley in August - we've several Smokers now, plus a 'wotnot' so you'll be in good company.

no we live near York so it was about a 120 mile round trip.  wish i was near the south coast tho!  i had always wanted a merlin from being a kid!  used to sail a national 12 and an enterprise but the merlin even sounds fast!  my daughter has joned the university sailing club and has been pestering me to get a boat - hope she knows how to use a spinnaker!!
