I take it you've spotted the two boats 2508 & 1884 from your neck of the woods on the 'Boats for sale' page. there are also newer boats not much further afield. good hunting, Barry.

Several people do it, I have sailed single-handed from time to time. It's OK but there are other boats I would rather sail single handed. If it gets at all windy there is a lot to do and things happen quickly, in light winds you end up sitting on the centreboard case which isn't altogether comfortable! Narrow boats are a better bet for it as at least you can reach everything

I've also single-handed quite often, but it isn't for the inexperienced!

I have raced and cruised Merlin’s single handed all summer seasons for the last 7 years and once you and the boat are setup it is great. If you go on to buy let me know and I could e-mail pictures etc of systems on my boat. Some clubs might be suspicious of allowing single handed but in my experience if you race a complete series or regatta 1up and not just changing for the conditions then its widely accepted.
Ps not being personal but what weight & height are you?? I am over 6'3" 18 1/2 stone and I sometimes still get overpowered and run short of hands!! but it's great fun trying.
For a note I have raced Phantoms and Finns the normal big guy single handers and they are pants compared to the Merlin under 3 sails 1up.
