Topic : So, what is a"Honeymoon?"

Just for reference, can somebody enlighten me as to the design philosophy behind the Honeymoon design. Is it designed for ponds or see, an all rounder or for allroundies (i.e. me at 15 stone)
cheers,

The Honeymoon design seems perfect at the start but after a while all the little niggles kick in and after a while you realised that buying it was not a good idea but to change is just too damned expensive!!!!!

Always difficult to answer questions about the little variations of design and one-off's. This was an Alan Jackson variant of the CT. Most of Jacko's boats were aimed at the fuller-figured perching type of sailor (*ducks*) and if you are interested Jacko would be the best person to answer this. Could well be a good starter Merlin.

Pete,

The picture on Jacko's website of the boat with the Spaceframe is the actual Honeymoon design that is for sale, originally owned by Tony Brookes.

Not sure of it's condition now but seeing that it has been up for sale sine 07/05 i'm ure the owner would haggle!

Cheers

Think you'll find that 3551 was the first Honeymoon, built for Nigel & Susie Brooke, and I am not sure which if any were built after that - Jacko, any recollections?

3528 & 3529 were both Watermark designs and built as sisterships for the Masterbuilder & Mr Metcalfe respectively. I remember it well, because Jacko's own boat didn't measure and had to have some shavings off each gunwhale, and the spinnaker pole was 9" long.

You should have seen Jacko laugh when I told him, from a position safely the other side of the armoured door ...

9"?!! Impressive but I've never heard it called a spinnaker pole before. Very appropriate on a thread entitled 'Honeymoon'.

Like the old joke - "Mine's 12" but I don't use it as a rule"!!!

3551 - Rush In Blue - is basically a Canterbury Tales with a bit of the rocker taken out and the stem dropped a bit to make it more pointy. Designed to be a good all rounder for 22-23 stone (which it is), with empahsis on downwind speed in a blow (at which it excelled!). Built around a strong lightweight space frame with Kevlar foredeck. It's actually wood, but was built from new with glass sheathing wherever legal to keep the stiffness and give longevity. Designed for heavier helm (!) and lighter crew. Everything measured first time BTW.

Jacko can probably tell you some of the more techy details.

It was delivered a few days before our wedding.... hence the design name! Jacko got some ribbing I recall on the day ;)

According to the 1998 YB, the first year she appeared, 3551 is a Moondancer as is 3547 Moonlight Assassin.
