Has anyone seen those dodgy sales they have where a bloke offers the contents of a black binbag to the highest bidder?

It's a Mike Jackson designed 'Superstition' built by Anderson, Rigden & Perkins in Whitstable. I had one of those for a while - nice boat.

Does anyone remember Roy Rigden? His boats were well built and sailed 'em pretty well too.

I saw that one as well. The worrying thing about the ad is the fact that the tatty black cover does not come off for any of the pictures, which can only be because what is underneath is even worse! And someone will actually buy it!! Fantastic. I only wish e-bay had been around when I was trying to sell 2315 (£250 for a boat in good condition with slightly tired sails & took 5 months) and 3202 (went to France for £500ish along with a whole load of accumulated Merlin junk and sails - good condition but I could never make the boat go, it was a dog!)

Suffocating black actually, but there are likely enough holes in it!! Always be wary of the baggy bit in the middle!!!

Roy Rigden built Hornets back in the 70's & 80's might be worth trying the Hornet rep. I'd be surprised if the Whitstable guys don't know of him. Barry (x hornet1246)

Roy Rigden is well remembered at Whitstable although he passed on some years ago. A fine boatbuilder, helmsman and occasional designer of Merlins and several other classes. His vast boatbuiding "works" is right next door to the Whitstable Yacht Club, of which Roy was a prominent member in every sense. He is famous for his guidance of the WYC yoof section of his era. Many of these guys and gals are still members and some sail Merlins in our modern fleet. The club now owns "The Rigden Shed" and it houses our rescue boats, dozens of windsurfing boards, loads of sails and a full time professional Sailing School which is open to the public.
We won't forget Roy.
